Detroit house pioneer DJ Minx released her first record for Radio Slave's Rekids label in February, a two-track EP whose title cut features Grammy winner Kendra Foster.
DJ Minx has put out her first record for Rekids, the London label founded by Matt Edwards, who records and DJs as Radio Slave. The two-track "Energy" EP arrived on February 13, 2026, catalog number REKIDS281, and it pairs the Detroit house veteran with a guest vocalist who has two Grammy Awards on her shelf.
The title track, credited to DJ Minx and Kendra Foster, runs on hard drums and bright synth stabs under Foster's vocal, per the label's release notes. The flip side, "You Can," slows things down, setting a spoken-word vocal over a deep, crawling bassline. Minx framed the contrast plainly. The release "shows two sides of Minx, raw and deep," she said in a note carried by Juno Daily ahead of the record.
The signing reads as a natural fit rather than a surprise. Minx founded Women on Wax in 1996 and has been a fixture of the Detroit scene since the 1990s, with a run at Movement going back to 2000, radio shows on WGPR and CJAM, and a Spirit of Detroit Award to her name. Her recent work includes the "Queendom" EP and a BBC Radio 1 Essential Mix. The Rekids relationship was already building before this record: she appeared on the label's House of Rekids mix series in 2025, played its Panorama Bar showcase in Berlin, and closed the year with a remix of Radio Slave and Kameelah Waheed's "All Rize."
Foster, the guest on the title track, is a singer and songwriter who grew up in Tallahassee, Florida, and built her name as a collaborator with George Clinton and Parliament-Funkadelic before co-writing much of D'Angelo's "Black Messiah." She won a Grammy for Best R&B Song for "Really Love" in 2016. Putting that voice on a Minx production is the kind of booking that earns the EP its attention.
