Detroit techno figure Jeff Mills and his trio Tomorrow Comes The Harvest will release a new album, Forbidden Planet, on his own Axis Records in early 2026.
Jeff Mills, the Detroit techno producer behind Axis Records, has lined up a new album with his group Tomorrow Comes The Harvest. The record is called Forbidden Planet and is set for release on Axis early in 2026, according to the label's own listing.
Tomorrow Comes The Harvest is a trio. Mills works alongside keyboardist Jean-Phi Dary and tabla player Prabhu Edouard. The project began years earlier as a duo between Mills and Tony Allen, the Afrobeat drummer who anchored Fela Kuti's bands. Allen died in 2020, and the remaining players carried the project forward with Edouard joining on tabla and voice.
Forbidden Planet follows Evolution, the trio's 2023 album recorded live in Brussels. The new record's full tracklist has not been announced yet.
The first taste is a single called "The Happening," a roughly nine-minute improvised piece the three musicians cut while recording in Paris. Axis describes the track in spare terms, saying "The Happening refers to the life and death of every living thing. Infinity," per the label's release notes.
The music sits between the worlds the players come from. Mills brings the machine-driven pulse of Detroit techno, Dary carries a background that runs through African and French jazz, and Edouard adds the rhythmic detail of Indian classical percussion. The result reads less like any single genre and more like a fourth thing built from all three.
