How the Journal works

Standards

Strait Journal is a Detroit culture publication, owned and edited in Detroit by Strait Media Group, LLC. This page says how a story gets here and what to do when we get something wrong.

Reporting

Every story is built from primary sources: the people, documents, records and places involved. Where a story relies on another outlet's reporting, that outlet is named in the story and linked. We do not publish press releases as news. Event dates, prices, addresses and figures are checked against the source before a story runs, and a story that cannot be verified is held, not published.

Independence

No story is paid for. We take no money from the people, venues or organizations we cover, and we disclose any relationship that a reader would want to know about. Sponsored content, if we ever run it, will be labeled as such.

Corrections

When we get a fact wrong we fix it in the story and say so at the bottom of the piece, with the date. Tell us at [email protected] or through the contact page; a correction request gets a reply within two days.

Who makes it

The editor is responsible for everything published here. The people who write and edit the Journal are on the masthead, each with a direct address.

Photos

Photographs are credited to their makers. Archive images carry their source. We ask before we use a photographer's work and link to them where they want to be found.
