Movement 2024 closes Monday with Borderland, Seth Troxler and a Fatboy Slim send-off

Movement wrapped its 2024 run at Hart Plaza on Monday, May 27, the third and final day of the Memorial Day weekend festival that promoter Paxahau builds around Detroit's techno history. The Movement Stage closed the weekend the way it opened it, with a national headliner on top of a bill that kept a foot in the city's own catalog.

The published set times put the main stage in a clear arc on Monday. Patrick Russell opened in the late afternoon, followed by Borderland, the live project pairing Detroit techno originator Juan Atkins with Berlin's Moritz von Oswald. UK selector Jaguar took the early-evening slot, Seth Troxler held the prime hour before the close, and Fatboy Slim played the final set on the Movement Stage from roughly 9:30 to 11 p.m., per the schedule Paxahau released ahead of the weekend.

The rest of the grounds carried the depth that makes Movement's closing day worth the cheapest pass of the weekend. The Waterfront Stage leaned into drum and bass and jungle, anchored by Goldie in both a DJ set and a live-band set, with LTJ Bukem, Special Request, Martyn and dBridge also listed. The Stargate Stage ran a harder dance bill with Chris Lake, Gorgon City and a Boys Noize back-to-back with VTSS. The Pyramid Stage went house and disco, with Honey Dijon, Horse Meat Disco, DJ Minx and a DJ Tennis back-to-back with Gerd Janson.

The Detroit Stage, as ever, was where the home roster sat. Monday's listing included Terrence Parker, John Collins, Drummer B, Bruce Bailey, DJ Cent and Something Blue, a slate weighted toward city names rather than touring headliners. Borderland's main-stage slot put Atkins, one of the architects of the sound the whole festival descends from, in front of the largest Monday crowd.

Movement 2024 ran Saturday through Monday across six stages, with the weekend's marquee showcases, including Carl Craig's Detroit Love teaming with Defected and a 30-year Metalheadz celebration from Goldie, landing earlier in the weekend rather than on the Monday close. Paxahau typically reports final weekend attendance after the festival; this account does not estimate that figure.
