Severe weather pushed Movement's second day off its grounds before 7 p.m., and the festival reopened in time for Richie Hawtin and a Kevin Saunderson set with Idris Elba to close the night.
The second day of Movement 2024 turned on the weather before it turned on any one set.
Rain and thunder moved across Hart Plaza in the early evening of Sunday, May 26, and the festival cleared its grounds. Organizers sent an alert telling attendees to leave the site at around 6:43 p.m., per the festival's social channels and contemporaneous reporting. Wind gusts near 17 miles per hour came with the storm. For a stretch of the early evening, the Detroit waterfront that anchors the festival each Memorial Day weekend sat empty.
Gates reopened shortly after 10 p.m., in time for the night's scheduled headliners, according to the festival's set times and reporting on the evacuation. The closing hour ran close to plan despite the gap.
Richie Hawtin closed the Movement Stage with his DEX EFX X0X set, booked for 10 p.m. to midnight. On the Pyramid Stage, the KMS Records showcase ended with a back to back set from Kevin Saunderson and Idris Elba, one of the weekend's most anticipated pairings. Nicole Moudaber and 999999999 were among the other late acts who played after the reopening.
The day's other rooms held to the schedule once the site reopened. The Stargate Stage ran the Masters At Work showcase to a midnight close from the New York duo. The Waterfront Stage moved through Floating Points and Mount Kimbie before a James Blake DJ set finished the night. The Underground Stage carried Ellen Allien, I Hate Models, and 999999999 across its final hours.
Movement is produced by Paxahau at Hart Plaza over Memorial Day weekend. The 2024 edition ran May 25 to 27 across six stages. Sunday was the day the festival had to recover from a weather hold and still land its biggest sets, and the published schedule shows it largely did.
