Southwest Detroit women push for pollution limits after generations of family loss

According to Planet Detroit, in reporting by The 19th's Ebony JJ Curry, republished by Planet Detroit, a coalition of Detroit women is pushing Michigan lawmakers to pass the Protecting Overburdened Communities Act, which would require state regulators to consider a community's cumulative pollution burden before approving new industrial permits. Strait has not independently confirmed this.

Why we're watching: per a September 2025 Detroit City Council resolution, the bills SB 479 and HB 4742 carry the council's formal support, and we will cover the Lansing votes directly when they land.
