According to the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services, Wayne County residents on SNAP who lost food during recent storms and power outages can request replacement benefits through Wednesday, Sept. 23. The agency says households can report spoiled food by calling 844-464-3447 or by filing the DHS-601 affidavit online. Replacement amounts are set by the value of the food lost and capped at a household's maximum monthly benefit. "Michigan families should know they may have an option to recover some of the food assistance they lost during the extended power outage in Wayne County," said Amy Epkey, the MDHHS acting director, in the department's announcement.
