Detroit DJ Father Dukes, who came up through Seraphine Collective's Beatmatch Brunch, took a slot at Movement over Memorial Day weekend.
Father Dukes, the Detroit DJ also known as Hailey Dukes, was on the bill for Movement 2025, which returned to Hart Plaza over Memorial Day weekend. She appears in the festival's published lineup, per 5 Magazine, and Metro Times ran a preview of her set ahead of the weekend.
Dukes learned to DJ through Beatmatch Brunch, the workshop run by Seraphine Collective, the Detroit collective for women and nonbinary artists. In her own telling, she saw a flyer for a DJ class for people who are not men and signed up, then kept practicing on her own after the course ended (per CanvasRebel). The class was led by the artist Mother Cyborg.
She has been a working DJ in the city for years rather than months. A 2021 Detroit Rose interview already described her as making waves on the local scene, and her Resident Advisor profile lists Detroit dates going back well before this festival. By 2025 she was a regular at Spot Lite Detroit and had played rooms in New York, Chicago, and San Francisco.
