Soul Clap and Paxahau ran the 11th edition of the House of EFUNK afterparty across two nights and three stages at TV Lounge over Movement weekend, with a new vinyl compilation premiering at the door.
Soul Clap's House of EFUNK returned to TV Lounge for its 11th edition over Movement weekend, running two nights on May 24 and 25. Soul Clap, the Boston-born duo of Eli Goldstein and Charles Levine, presented the weekender in partnership with Paxahau, the company that produces Movement. The party spread across three stages at the Grand River Avenue club, with sets starting at 11 p.m. and running late.
EFUNK has been a fixture of the Memorial Day weekend calendar for more than a decade. The 2024 run was billed as the event's 10 year anniversary, which puts the 2025 edition at year 11. The booking leans toward house, disco, and live performance rather than the techno marathons that define much of the rest of the weekend. The 2025 lineups, listed on the official Resident Advisor event pages, included Ben UFO, Joe Claussell, Roy Davis Jr., Matthew Dear, Shanti Celeste, Stacey Pullen, Waajeed, and an Inner City live set, among many others across the two nights.
The weekend doubled as a record release. Soul Clap Records put out a new compilation, "EFUNK 2025," collecting tracks from Axel Boman, Mathew Jonson, Juliet Mendoza, Ataxia and Mister Joshooa, and a Soul Clap collaboration with Byron The Aquarius. Per the label's Bandcamp page, the music premiered on wax at the Detroit event before the compilation's wider release later that summer.
The Paxahau co-production is what sets House of EFUNK apart from most Movement afterparties, which tend to run as independent promoter events. With the festival's organizer behind it, EFUNK operates on firmer institutional footing, which is part of why the residency has held for so long.
