A design district takes shape in Milwaukee Junction, built on the neighborhood's own history

Bria Bergman and Amelia Patt-Zamir are growing the Detroit Design District around the Boyer Campbell building, drawing on Milwaukee Junction's auto, architecture, and music legacy instead of starting from scratch.

New reporting from Detroitisit, by Kim Kisner, says Bria Bergman and Amelia Patt-Zamir are building the Detroit Design District in Milwaukee Junction. The pair are anchoring the creative cluster in the roughly 60,000-square-foot Boyer Campbell building, and they're drawing on the neighborhood's auto manufacturing history, its architecture, and its music to shape the district rather than starting from a blank slate. "We're not trying to change the neighborhood," Bergman told Detroitisit. "We're trying to enhance what is already there." Strait has not independently confirmed this.

Why we're watching: Milwaukee Junction already has the bones for a real design district, and we'll cover the galleries, shops, and openings directly as they land.
