According to Pewabic Pottery, the ceramics institution is opening a new community studio on Detroit's east side, the Pewabic Neighborhood Studio. Writer Amanda Rogers says the space will sit at the Cadillac Arts Centre in the Little Village cultural corridor, about a five-minute walk from Pewabic's historic campus on East Jefferson.
The studio is a partnership with the Progressive Art Studio Collective (PASC) and is billed as fully accessible, built to bring clay to people of all abilities once construction wraps. No opening date has been set. Strait has not independently confirmed this.
"This new fully accessible studio creates more opportunities for people of all abilities to experience ceramics," Executive Director Jim Leija told pewabic.org.
Why we're watching: Pewabic keeps growing into a working east-side anchor, and we will cover the Neighborhood Studio directly when it opens.
