Detroit's long-running vegan pop-up Street Beet opens a brick-and-mortar at 1800 Michigan Avenue, in the former Bobcat Bonnie's space where the brand first popped up.
After seven years of pop-ups, Street Beet now has an address with its name on it.
The plant-based operation opened its first permanent location on December 11, 2025, at 1800 Michigan Avenue in Corktown, the space that until earlier in the year held Bobcat Bonnie's. Meghan Shaw and Nina Paletta started Street Beet in 2018, running vegan nights out of Corktown and Cass Corridor bars before pausing and coming back. Moving into a Corktown storefront brings the brand back to the neighborhood where it first set up, this time with a room of its own.
The menu carries over what the pop-up was known for: vegan takes on Tex-Mex, Southern diner plates, and fast-food comfort food, all 100 percent plant based. Street Beet has also built out a nonalcoholic drink program with milkshakes, floats, malts, dirty sodas, and zero-proof cocktails. House-made desserts are part of the lineup. A full coffee counter pouring Coffee Haus is planned, and brunch service is set to follow, including weekday hours.
In the back, Offworld Arcade has installed vintage consoles and pinball machines, a nod to the nostalgia the brand trades on. Opening weekend ran 4 to 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and 4 to 10 p.m. Sunday, per the venue and local listings.
The Corktown room is one piece of a larger expansion. Street Beet has announced a Birmingham location at 233 N. Old Woodward Avenue, set inside a grocery store with a walk-up takeout window, and the company has said it partnered with a hedge fund to grow the brand. "We can make the world a better place, one fried 'chicken' sandwich at a time," Shaw said in a press release announcing the expansion.
