Ariel Corley has spent more than a decade building DJ Holographic into a Detroit-rooted, genre-fluid touring act, and the bookings show why her name keeps coming up first.
Ariel Corley has been DJing in Detroit as DJ Holographic for more than a decade. When the question turns to the next generation of Detroit DJs, hers is one of the first names raised, and the booking record explains why.
Corley was born and raised in Detroit, and her first listings on Resident Advisor go back to 2013. She came up on Motown, R&B, rock, and house, and she folds all of it into a set. Her own description, "a one-woman funk machine," is the short version. The longer version is a selection that moves across house, disco, techno, R&B, and Motown in a single room, which is unusual among a cohort that often holds to techno.
Detroit is where the brand took shape. Marble Bar and TV Lounge in the city are among her most-played rooms, and the warehouse-party circuit is her home base. The DJ Holographic name carries a strongly Detroit identity, rooted in the city's club and afterparty culture rather than imported from anywhere else.
The travel has scaled up alongside the local work. Her booking agency lists appearances at Coachella, Tomorrowland, and OFFSonar, plus a run of stadium opening sets for Swedish House Mafia in 2022. In Berlin she has become a regular at Panorama Bar, the upstairs room at Berghain, with a New Year's Eve set there to close out 2022 and further dates since. Resident Advisor lists Detroit, New York, Berlin, London, and Chicago among the cities she plays most.
The work is not only behind the decks. She curated Detroit Love Vol. 5 in 2021 for Carl Craig's Planet E label, the entry that includes her own track Faith in My Cup, and the compilation drew a nod from DJ Mag. Her debut EP, Parallel Shifting, landed in 2020, and her zodiac-themed House in the Dark series rolled out across 2024 and 2025. Her 2020 Resident Advisor podcast, billed as the sound of Detroit past, present, and future, remains one of the cleaner introductions to how she thinks about the city's lineage.
Movement is the annual anchor. Corley has played Detroit's Memorial Day weekend festival multiple times, and she was on the 2025 lineup when the Paxahau-produced event returned to Hart Plaza for its May 24 to 26 weekend. The festival doubles as a homecoming and a showcase for the city's hometown acts.
She has stayed in Detroit by choice, and she has been direct about why. The city's mentorship culture is the reason she keeps coming back to in interviews. "Detroit is blessed to have so many mentors for young African Americans," she told Billboard in 2022. "You don't get that in a lot of places." She has also framed her visibility as part of the point: "With me being who I am and being Black, queer and female, I hope that people see that courage and take that to their workspace," she told the same outlet.
That is the case for DJ Holographic as a marker of where Detroit's DJ scene is heading. A deep local foundation, a catalog that is starting to fill in, an international schedule that runs through the rooms her predecessors opened, and a stated commitment to the city that produced her.
