Movement wrapped its three day run at Hart Plaza on Memorial Day, with John Summit taking the final slot on the Movement Stage.
Movement closed its 2025 run at Hart Plaza on Monday, May 26, the Memorial Day finale of a three day weekend that producer Paxahau spread across six stages and a lineup of more than 110 acts.
John Summit took the closing slot on the Movement Stage, playing the 9:30 p.m. to 11 p.m. set that ended the festival. Jamie xx ran the slot before him, and the afternoon and early evening on that stage moved through Kevin Reynolds, DJ Holographic, and Claude VonStroke.
Summit had flagged the closing set when the lineup was announced. "I'm stoked to be playing Movement for the third time and now, closing out the festival," he said in a statement reported by Billboard. "I've attended as a fan for years and the energy and support this city and crowd bring is always special."
The other stages closed in step at 11 p.m. The Waterfront Stage, presented by JARS, ran a bass heavy Monday that ended with Chase and Status and then FERG, after sets from Sara Landry and Detroit's own DJ Godfather and HiTech. The Stargate Stage closed with Loco Dice back to back with Vintage Culture. The Underground Stage finished with Klangkuenstler, following Boys Noize. The Pyramid Stage handed its final set to Ricardo Villalobos, after Seth Troxler and DJ Minx. The Detroit Stage, the festival's home for the city's own selectors, closed with Norm Talley and carried Mike Clark, Keith Worthy, and Whodat through the day.
The Memorial Day bill capped a weekend that had been built around Jeff Mills on Saturday and Charlotte de Witte on Sunday. Recap coverage put the three day crowd around 90,000, in line with recent years, with some writers noting a softer international turnout tied to tighter border enforcement.
Movement traces its lineage to the Detroit Electronic Music Festival, which first took over Hart Plaza in 2000, and the 2025 edition leaned on that history with a Detroit Stage and a deep bench of local artists across the weekend. The afterparty circuit downtown carried the weekend past the plaza's 11 p.m. close.
