Kevin Saunderson revives E-Dancer with his son, the alias's first album in 25 years

Kevin Saunderson, one of the founders of Detroit techno, has brought back his E-Dancer alias for the first time in more than two decades, and he made the record with his son.

The self-titled album is the first original E-Dancer full-length since 1998's Heavenly, the release that defined the project. Saunderson built the new record with his son Dantiez, who shares production credit. It is a ten-track set of stripped-down, club-aimed techno, the harder and more underground side of Saunderson's catalog that has always sat apart from his Inner City work and his solo releases.

The album came out on the One House label in 2025. The lead single, Melodica, surfaced in late 2024, and a second track, Emotions, anchored the album announcement.

Saunderson has framed the project as a continuation of the same idea that started his career. "When I decided to make music, my path was to make people dance," he said in the album's release statement. "It always will be. Dance is happiness." On the family side, he told Ibiza Spotlight that Dantiez set the whole thing in motion: "Dantiez kind of inspired it. He made a track, and it sounded like e-Dancer."

Dantiez, who helps run his father's KMS Records label, described the record as growing out of his own production work. "My productions are often deeper and emotive because I focus on the feeling of people coming together, dancing as one," he said in the release statement.

The reunion has a second act. Paxahau has booked E-Dancer for Movement 2026, the Memorial Day weekend festival at Hart Plaza that marks 20 years of the event Saunderson helped put on the map. Kevin and Dantiez are scheduled to perform the E-Dancer material live on Sunday, May 24, 2026, turning the album into the setup for a father-and-son set on the main stage of a festival rooted in their own city.
