Jeff Mills takes Carl Cox's Saturday headline slot at Movement

Carl Cox has postponed his Movement set to 2026, and the festival has named Jeff Mills to take the Saturday headline slot in his place.

The change was announced February 20, 2025, three months before the festival. Cox shared the news himself on Instagram, telling fans his show was being pushed to next year because of scheduling complications. He had been billed to debut a new hybrid live show in Detroit. "I'm sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but I promise to make it worth the wait," Cox wrote, adding that he would return with his full live experience.

Movement organizers moved quickly to fill the spot. Mills will now headline Day 1 on Saturday, May 24, joining a bill that already included Charlotte de Witte, John Summit and Underground Resistance co-founder Mike Banks across the weekend.

Mills is one of the architects of Detroit techno, a founding member of Underground Resistance who built his solo career around the Roland TR-909 and his own Axis label. A booking like this lands differently in Hart Plaza than it would anywhere else, and Mills said as much when the festival shared the news.

"To be able to play in Detroit is and has always been a special kind of magic," Mills said in the festival's announcement. "It's one of the few places in the world where anything could happen because of a higher premium of music 'sense' most people have."

Movement runs May 24 to 26 at Hart Plaza over Memorial Day weekend.
