TV Lounge keeps Detroit techno running year round on Grand River

TV Lounge sits at 2548 Grand River Avenue, and it programs house and techno most weekends of the year. The club calls itself the longest running and most iconic nightclub in Detroit, and it leans into the city's electronic roots with weeknight DJ sets, weekend lineups that mix local names with touring selectors, and what its own site describes as the best party patio in the city.

The resident behind much of that programming is Mister Joshooa, the DJ name of Josh Guerin. He works as the club's music director and has been tied to the room for more than two decades, a stretch long enough that profiles of him credit him with helping turn a neighborhood bar into one of the more durable clubs in techno's birthplace. He keeps a foot in the wider scene too. He played his first set at Berlin's Panorama Bar in April 2025, and Carl Craig's Planet E Communications released his Settle Down EP the following month.

The room's marquee event is House of EFUNK, the multi night Movement weekend afterparty that the Boston duo Soul Clap produces with Paxahau, the Detroit company behind the Movement Music Festival. Soul Clap is Eli Goldstein and Charles Levine, who have been making and spinning records together since the early 2000s. The 2025 edition, the 11th, ran two nights across three stages on May 24 and 25, with a lineup that included Ben UFO, Joe Claussell, Roy Davis Jr, Inner City and dozens of others, per Resident Advisor's event listing. The organizers have described the weekender as "basically a micro festival at this point." A 12th edition is booked at the same venue for May 23 and 24, 2026.

What sets TV Lounge apart from venues that surface only on Movement weekend is that it stays open the rest of the year. The festival weekend is the loudest moment on its calendar, but the residencies and weekend bookings run on a steady cadence the other 11 months, which is part of why the same crowd keeps turning up.
