Planet E released the soundtrack to "Desire: The Carl Craig Story" in summer 2025. The compilation tracks the documentary's chronology and functions as a Carl Craig primer for anyone coming to his catalog for the first time.

The documentary itself premiered at Tribeca in 2024, opened in UK theaters in May 2025, and had its Detroit premiere at Newlab at Michigan Central Station on May 22, 2025, two days before Craig closed Movement's Saturday night with Moodymann and Mike Banks. The soundtrack release was timed to ride that wave.

What makes the compilation work is that it is not a greatest-hits. It is a selection of tracks that the film uses to tell the story, which means the track order matters and the sequencing is doing something other than maximizing familiar singles. You get "At Les," obviously. You get deeper cuts that the documentary pulls from specific moments in Craig's career. The record rewards listening in order.

The soundtrack is out on Planet E. The documentary is available through its UK distributor.
