The Hustle is open again at the Detroit Historical Museum, and the best time to go is a Thursday night that won't cost you a thing.

The Detroit Historical Society opened the second round of the exhibit on Friday, October 23. The museum sits at 5401 Woodward Ave.

On Thursday, October 29, the museum stays open late from 5 to 8 p.m. with free admission. Adult admission is otherwise $15.

This round runs as five rotating exhibitions, with each one featuring seven honorees. The first group runs October 23 through January 17, 2027, and the last one closes January 6, 2028.

The opening cohort includes Alandra Chuney of The Sisters' Couch, Asia Denson of Denson Construction Services, and Diana Gomez of Tacos Hernandez.

The Hustle celebrates Detroit's unsung entrepreneurs, especially Black and person-of-color business owners. This round widens eligibility to all Detroit-based entrepreneurs of color, not just Black-identifying entrepreneurs. To qualify, a brick-and-mortar business must be located in Detroit, and internet-based or mobile ventures count when the owner lives in the city. Honorees' personal stories, portraits, and artifacts are archived in the Detroit Historical Society's collection.

The first round showed how much Detroit wanted this. It drew more than 73,000 visitors and featured 34 honorees, chosen from nearly 800 crowd-sourced nominations.

Beyond the gallery walls, The Hustle runs as a program of large-scale photography, oral histories, public programming, school tours, and resource summits. A virtual exhibition, a podcast, and a published book carry the project beyond the museum.

Thursday isn't the only free window this week. The museum also opened free for the HustleHERS Resource Summit on Saturday, October 24, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and for Treats in the Streets on Sunday, October 25, from 1 to 5 p.m.

Regular hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday.
