The Detroit Tigers' downtown ballpark, open under the Comerica name since 2000, takes on a new title after Fifth Third's merger with Comerica Bank. Fifth Third paired the switch with a $20 million commitment to two Detroit neighborhoods.
The ballpark that helped pull baseball back downtown is getting a new name.
On Monday, September 21, the Detroit Tigers and Fifth Third Bank announced that Comerica Park will become Fifth Third Park starting with the 2027 season.
The park has carried the Comerica name since it opened in 2000. The change follows Fifth Third's merger with Comerica Bank, which held the naming rights to the ballpark. Comerica had extended that naming rights deal in 2018 to run through 2034.
Crews will update signage during the offseason, with new marquee signage installed ahead of the 2027 season. The building itself stays the same, and so does the schedule: the Tigers open the 2027 season at home on March 25 against the Chicago White Sox.
Fifth Third announced its acquisition of Comerica almost a year earlier. After the merger, Fifth Third became the largest retail deposit holder in both Michigan and Detroit.
The bank paired the name change with money for the city. Fifth Third announced a $20 million capital commitment to Detroit's Gratiot/Seven Mile (G7) and Denby/Whittier neighborhoods focused on economic mobility and financial inclusion, along with an expansion of its Neighborhood Program and support for small businesses through grants.
The ballpark anchors Detroit's downtown sports and entertainment district. Longtime fans have leaned on nicknames like CoPa over the seasons, and a new sign will take some getting used to.
The first pitch under the Fifth Third Park name is set for spring 2027, when the Tigers host the White Sox on March 25.
