New reporting from BridgeDetroit says Detroit's Critical Home Repair and LeadSafe Housing programs are taking pre-applications from 8 a.m. Wednesday, September 9 through 5 p.m. Tuesday, September 22. Reporter Nushrat Rahman writes that applicants must own and live in a Detroit home for at least a year and be current on property taxes or in a payment plan. For Critical Home Repair, at least one household member must be a child under 18, a senior 62 or older, or a resident with a documented disability, and BridgeDetroit reports LeadSafe Housing carries different household requirements. BridgeDetroit reports Mayor Mary Sheffield named home repair expert Heather Zygmontowicz to lead a citywide effort. Strait has not independently confirmed the appointment.
