Detroit's BSEED hosts a landlord resource fair at the Northwest Activities Center on Nov. 17

Detroit landlords have a new date worth circling.

On November 17, the City of Detroit's Buildings, Safety Engineering and Environmental Department is holding its Landlord Academy & Resource Fair 2026 at the Northwest Activities Center. The event is set to start at 10 a.m.

The center sits at 18100 Meyers Rd on the city's northwest side. The fair is built for landlords, and it connects them with city resources, property maintenance guidance, and the rental requirements that come with renting out a home in Detroit. A resource fair means the city brings its people and its paperwork to the landlords instead of the other way around.

Registration is open now at detroitmi.gov/LandlordFair.

Here's the part a flyer doesn't dwell on: the fair isn't the only help BSEED offers. The department runs an in-person landlord compliance clinic on second Mondays at the same Northwest Activities Center, so the November event lands in a room a lot of landlords already know. There's also a virtual compliance clinic every Friday, where landlords can register, join, and get their questions answered from wherever they are. The weekly virtual sessions are a low-stakes way to sort out a single question before it becomes a problem.

Put together, that's a standing set of front doors for anyone trying to keep a rental in good standing with the city. The fair gathers those resources into one morning and one place, and the clinics carry the work forward week by week and month by month.

For a landlord, the stakes are practical. Staying current on Detroit's rental requirements is what keeps a property rentable and a tenant housed, and a morning of face time with the department that writes and enforces those rules beats guessing at them. The city doesn't expect every owner to arrive already fluent in code, and that's the point of putting experts, paperwork, and answers in one place.

The Northwest Activities Center is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and it's closed Sundays.

If you own rental property in Detroit, registration for the November 17 fair is open now at detroitmi.gov/LandlordFair.
