Hamilton's anchors the Godfrey Hotel in Corktown

The Godfrey Hotel opened on Michigan Avenue in the summer of 2023, and its ground-floor restaurant followed. Hamilton's runs as a neighborhood tavern at 1401 Michigan Avenue, with a dining room and bar that seat 93 and an outdoor terrace facing Michigan Avenue that seats another 38. The kitchen serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner daily.

The restaurant comes from Samy Eid's Chickpea Hospitality, the Detroit group behind Leila in Capitol Park and the Phoenicia and Forest restaurants in Birmingham. The menu leans toward classic American fare built around local and seasonal ingredients, paired with a full bar program.

Hamilton's was announced in May 2023 as a venture between Chickpea, Chicago-based Oxford Capital Group, and Detroit-based developer Hunter Pasteur, who developed the Godfrey. "We are honored to be collaborating on this luxury lifestyle project in the historical Corktown neighborhood," Eid said in the announcement, describing the goal as a dining experience for guests and locals alike.

The hotel itself carries 227 rooms and a rooftop lounge, the I|O, with views across Corktown and downtown. Oxford and Hunter Pasteur are also behind Perennial Corktown, a seven-story, 188-unit apartment community in the same neighborhood, along with a seven-unit townhome run near Tenth and Church and a parking structure on Church Street.

The location puts Hamilton's a few blocks from the rebuilt Michigan Central Station, which reopened in 2024 and pulled new foot traffic onto the surrounding blocks. Groundswell Design Group handled the interior, and Swiss Cottage Designs built the brand identity. The bet is a tavern that does the basics well and stays open from morning through the close of the night on an already crowded Corktown restaurant strip.
