Eastern Market Brewing Co. is moving from limited self-distribution to a statewide footprint this summer. Founder Dayne Bartscht confirmed the expansion to Detroit Metro Times, with a new production partner picking up the volume.

The Detroit taproom opened in 2017. The Ferndale Project, the brewery's second location, opened in 2020. Self-distribution has carried the operation across a limited Michigan territory since launch.

Bartscht's framing was direct. This is the moment that investment pays off. Statewide distribution starts this summer.

Elephant Juice is the lead. The IPA has been the brewery's signature pour out of the Russell Street taproom since the early years and is the SKU that travels first to the new partner accounts. The full statewide rollout will follow.

A production partner is the standard play for a Michigan brewery this size when self-distribution caps out. The contract brewer takes the volume. The home brewery keeps the recipes and the brand. Eastern Market did not name the partner.

The brewery is one of a handful of Detroit-city operations to graduate to statewide. Atwater is older and broader. Founders, in Grand Rapids, runs at a different scale entirely. Eastern Market sits with the second wave of Detroit-city breweries, the post-2015 cohort.

The Ferndale Project does not appear in the distribution rollout under that name. The volume runs under Eastern Market.
