Detroit City FC opens the USL Championship playoffs at Keyworth Stadium on Friday, October 30 at 8 p.m., a single-elimination match where a loss ends the season.
Detroit City FC plays its biggest match of the season on Friday night at Keyworth Stadium, and the stakes could not be simpler: win and the run continues, lose and the year is over.
The club hosts Hartford Athletic at Keyworth Stadium on Friday, October 30 at 8 p.m. in the opening round of the USL Championship playoffs. Detroit City FC announced the matchup on October 24.
This is a conference quarterfinal, and it's one game to settle it. The whole bracket is single elimination, which the club described plainly: "winners advance, while a loss ends a club's season." There's no second leg, no aggregate score, and no room for a flat night.
Detroit City FC enters as the third seed in the Eastern Conference. It's the fifth consecutive playoff appearance for a club that has qualified for the postseason every season since it joined the league in 2022. In its USL Championship era, Detroit City has never missed the postseason. The third seed earned the club the right to open at home.
The aim this fall is bigger than simply showing up again. The club is preparing, in its own words, "to begin its pursuit of its first USL Championship title." That is the one trophy Detroit City has never lifted.
Anyone who watched last season knows this group can win when it's tight and far from home. In the 2025 playoffs, Detroit City FC beat top-seeded Louisville City FC 1-0 on the road to reach the Conference Semifinals. This time the opener puts the match in front of Detroit City's own supporters at Keyworth.
The path from here is short and steep. Four rounds stand between Friday night and the trophy. The Conference Quarterfinals run October 30 to November 1, the Conference Semifinals follow November 6 to 8, the Conference Finals come November 13 to 15, and the USL Championship Final is set for November 20 to 22.
Tickets are on sale now at detcityfc.com/tickets. Kickoff at Keyworth is 8 p.m. on Friday. A win keeps the season alive and sends Detroit City into the Conference Semifinals the following week.
