Every September, Detroit Rescue Mission Ministries returns to one plain idea: recovery is possible.
The Detroit organization is marking National Recovery Month this September, using the observance to spotlight people whose lives are being changed through recovery from addiction and substance use. In a message posted to its website on September 9, DRMM described the month as a time to recognize the families, treatment providers, community organizations, faith communities and advocates who help make recovery possible. Its steady refrain is that recovery is possible.
The mission says it witnesses the power of recovery every day. That work runs through DRMM's Treatment Division and supportive programs, which the release says give people struggling with substance use a chance to take meaningful steps toward healing, stability and a healthier future. Those supportive programs reach individuals and families alike.
The mission does not do it alone. The release names the Michigan Department of Corrections, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration and the Detroit Wayne Integrated Health Network as partners that provide referrals and funding for treatment for specific populations and help connect people to care.
There is a way to hear the message directly this week. On Thursday, September 10 at 9 a.m., DRMM Vice President of Treatment Darlene Owens is set to appear on Beasley Media stations 105.1 The Bounce and 105.9 Kiss FM Detroit to talk about recovery, treatment, and resources for people in need.
DRMM's treatment and shelter services operate out of 150 Stimson Street in Detroit.
For anyone who needs it now, the mission lists an addiction helpline at (313) 263-0077 and an emergency shelter line at 866-313-2520, with a main line at (313) 993-4700. People who want to back the work can donate through the mission's website.
National Recovery Month gives DRMM a yearly moment to say something it repeats all year: that the next step toward a brighter future is available, and that no one has to take it alone.
