Season Fair returns to Detroit with eleven galleries at The Shepherd this weekend

Detroit's homegrown contemporary art fair is back, and this fall it settles into the east side.

Season Fair returns for its second annual edition September 11 to 13, 2026, at The Shepherd on Detroit's east side. The Shepherd sits at 1265 Parkview Street. Season Fair was organized by Amani Olu and his wife, Aleiya Lindsey Olu, who also organized Detroit Art Week.

Eleven galleries are exhibiting this year, and the roster reaches well past the city limits. Detroit rooms like Library Street Collective and PLAYGROUND DETROIT share the floor with HAGD Contemporary of Aalborg, Denmark, Abattoir Gallery of Cleveland, and Chela Mitchell Gallery of Washington, D.C.

Detroit Art Week, which launched in 2019, brought together participants including Playground Detroit, the Heidelberg Project and the Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History. The first Season Fair took place in September 2025 at Michigan Central, so this weekend marks the event's first run at The Shepherd.

The whole enterprise is built around one plain goal: getting money into artists' hands. "What we felt was missing was the opportunity for artists to sell their work, and we decided we need infrastructure for a marketplace and that's what art fairs do," Olu told BridgeDetroit. He also framed the stakes for the city, saying "artists need to get paid. They need to make money so they can continue to live in Detroit."

The week opens before the fair does. Season Talks, a free day of programming, runs September 10 from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the College for Creative Studies. Jennifer Gilbert and ARTPOWER are listed as the fair's lead partners.

If you want to go, general admission is $40 and a Friday VIP preview runs $100. A weekend pass runs $65. Fair hours are 2 to 8 p.m. Friday for the VIP preview and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
